On the home front, Congress needs to take action:

Resist the importation of Shariah Law.

Rutledge calls for Congress to adopt a federal law that prohibits the incorporation of Islamic law, known as Shariah law, at the local, state, or federal level. Experts estimate that less than 10% of Muslims favor the institution of Shariah law. Yet, misguided politicians throughout America are rushing to accommodate the demands of a few Shariah compliant Muslims in an attempt to appease the radical elements of Islam. Appeasement is a mistake because Shariah law is not consistent with our Constitutional guarantees of Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Equal Rights for women, and Due Process of law.

For example, on May 6, 2008, the Court of Appeals of Maryland denied a husband's request to accommodate Islamic divorce law and held:

Talaq lacks any significant "due process" for the wife, and its use moreover, directly deprives the wife of the "due process" she is entitled to when she initiates divorce litigation in this State...

The talaq divorce of countries applying Islamic law, unless substantially modified, is contrary to the public policy of this state and we decline to give talaq, as it is presented in this case, any comity....

A procedure that permits a man (and him only unless he agrees otherwise) to evade a divorce action begun in this State by rushing to the embassy of a country recognizing talaq and, without prior notice to the wife, perform "I divorce thee... " three times and thus summarily terminate the marriage and deprive his wife of marital property, confers insufficient due process to his wife.

As if the lack of respect for women's rights were not bad enough, Shariah compliant banking laws are the latest rage in London and Washington in the scramble for foreign dollars to finance the spending spree. Promote and teach the superiority of American law.

The Constitution promotes Human Dignity through the bedrock rights of Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Equal Protection, and Due Process of law, and that without these, our Unalienable Rights of life and liberty will perish. To start, we need leaders who understand and believe in these values. Only then can America withstand the myriad of pressures on Freedom from socialism, neo-Marxism, and Radical Islam. In short, we must use our freedom to win the battle of ideas, and we must stop apologizing for loving America.

Congress must assume its Constitutional role in providing for National Security.

The Congress has the sole and exclusive power to declare War, raise and support Armies, provide and maintain a Navy. [Article I, Section 8, US Constitution] Therefore, no War is the President's War. The Civil War was not Lincoln's War. Vietnam was not Kennedy's War or Johnson's War or Nixon's War. Iraq was not Bush's War, and the escalation in Afghanistan will not be Obama's War. Every War is the Senators' Wars, the Congressmen's Wars. What America needs is leadership in the US Senate, particularly at such a dangerous time in the world; Leaders who will not shirk their Constitutional duties. Leaders who are loyal to the troops and our veterans. Jim Rutledge is that leader.
