Rutledge to shine light on Democrats' health care reform plans at capitol rally
FOREST HILL, Maryland - Republican U.S. Senate candidate Jim Rutledge will participate in a
citizen-led grassroots rally opposing expanded federal government spending on health care to take place
at noon on Thursday on the west front of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C.
Rutledge called on Congressional leaders to resist further expansion of government control of and
spending on health care and instead focus on market-driven reforms that increase private competition
among insurers, including the expansion of risk pools across state lines, portability of policies and
increased transparency in cost.
Rutledge, an attorney, also encouraged House and Senate bill managers to include tort reform and other
regulatory changes in legislation now before both chambers in an effort to reduce the escalating costs of
defensive medicine and medical liability insurance now shouldered by America's doctors.
"Following last night's electoral rebuke of Democratic policies and leadership in Virginia and New
Jersey, this Democrat-led Congress is on notice that the American people are now tuned in to their deeds
and not simply their words when it comes to their health care reform proposals," Rutledge said. "Last
night's elections and Thursday's Capitol Hill rally are important reminders that we the people will hold
them accountable."
